Blue Mash Golf Course

The Ice Man Open 2011

Congratulations to THE Ice Man- Mr. Dyson Richards

On Saturday, January 22, 2011 Blue Mash Golf Course hosted their first ever Ice Man Open. Twenty brave souls enjoyed breakfast in the clubhouse, then packed up their carts for the 9:30 am shotgun. The temperature at tee-off? 12 degrees. It sounds crazy to play golf when its 12 degrees outside- but being an Ice Man is not only about playing golf in freezing weather, its about conquering the cold and showing Mother Nature who is boss. Competitors earned frost bite points for not wearing certain articles of clothing during their round. The points earned per hole were as follows: 1 point for each hand with no glove (including golf glove), 2 points for no hat, 1 point for each foot with no sock, 2 points for wearing shorts, 2 points for wearing short sleeves, and 1 point for every iced beverage consumed. The overall winner Dyson Richards, earned 187 frost bites points by rocking the outfit seen above for all 18 holes!  For taking out the competition Dyson won a Blue Mash Membership for the remainder of January through April 2011. The winner of each foursome was rewarded with lunch on Blue Mash, and all participants walked away with a certificate to come back between July and August- to catch one of the hottest days of the year. We're also 95% sure they all walked away with a terrible cold- but hope the crazy experience and bragging rights were worth it.
